Leaving Tomorrow

So, I’m leaving tomorrow. Getting a bit anxious about it but I’m also excited.

The trip is a bit intense though. Here’s a breakdown:

  • 7 hour flight from Toronto ON to London, UK
  • 8 hour layover in London UK
  • 12 hour flight to Johannesburg, South Africa
  • 2 hour layover in Johannesburg, South Africa
  • 2 hour flight to Gaborone, Botswana
  • 1 day in Gaborone for training
  • 2 hour flight to Maun, Botswana
  • 4 hour drive to Shakawe, Botswana

Lots of fun! I’m hoping that it will be possible to leave Heathrow in order to check out some of London during the layover.

As a side-note, with so many different connections I’ve decided to pack everything into one bag for carry-on. Using the information from Onebag.com I ordered the Air Boss from Red Oxx. We’ll see how it goes!

Introduction

So, the trip is in two days from now so I decided that it is probably a good idea to get this started.

As an introduction:

I am participating in the joint Center for International Studies and Cooperation and World University Service of Canada (WUSC) program Uniterra. Using the United Nations Millennium Goals as a mandate, they partner with organizations in select countries to exchange knowledge and experience in an effort to further the UN initiative.

The Leave for Change program involves professionals from certain disciplines to apply for select positions. The partners in the select countries review the applications and pick the candidates.

Botswana is my destination.

botswana

Particularly, a small town called Shakawe. It is in the north, along the border with Namibia.
